and i get a call weeks later telling me they were gonna announce my daing to the cong.

yipes... how does someone fake it for that long? how can someone stand and give talks and public prayers and comments and go in service when he is doing this on the side... how would he deal with being part of a judicial committee and perhaps be party to disfellowshipping someone for immorality?

my mother and i had already had this discussion. last year, when they were studying the "worship the only true God book" at the bookstudy, i realised it was just a "newer light" version of the United book. the only real difference is that the new book takes out two chapters... One on the covenant Jesus made with the "anointed" (wherein the watchtower makes some rather impossible mathematical statements like, "from 33 c.e. to about 1935, the only hope was a heavenly one." which means, of the millions of christians, only about 80,000 received any reward).
the other chapter taken out was the one on blood. that's interesting... the blood doctrine chapter was completely removed... my mom could not think of why... but im sure it was just "simplifying."

Anyone experienced the private Kingdom Schools?

i was a teacher for the first year of a newly organized "kingdom school", in 1977.

i remember a friend of mine went to one in arizona back in the late 80's or early 90's... they seemed to like it... then again, they were about 10-13... BEFORE all the fun of highschool starts

i just finished looking over the .pdf of the new organized to do jehovah's will book.

at the end, like the others, are the "questions.

and the answers!

Back in MY day the questions were printed at the bottom of each page of the publications

this is still true of regular publications (watchtower, 192 page books etc...) but these questions i believe are used for baptismal candidates and are all organized at the end of the book (like the old "organized to accomplish our ministry" book)

a certain catholic xjw (jeff schwem) and i have been following the same blog for several months.

in this blog, the young woman has been documenting her conversion to jwism.

i have not always been so kind in my comments as jeff has been, but i have been honest.

i remember a brother saying he had a return-visit with a pentecostal man. i told him to offer him the "trinity" brochure. the brother argued that this would not be a good approach, as it would get his back up. it's better to break him down about other things first, then the rest will fall into place.
this is a great example of how to approach a JW, in my opinion.

aaron's thread over in the "personal experiences" section really got me thinking about how it was to grow up a jw child in the 80's.

i was born in 1979. so, i missed the 1970's.

My best friend who taught me to play bass had to be given up because he was "bad association". I missed him so much. He cared about me unconditionally. It was great. He showed me my first porno.

hahaha now you know why he was considered bad association!!! worldly people LOOOOOOOOOVE pornography man, and they love everything else bad, so that's why we all do well to keep our distance.

that is a great point odrade,
i have never thought of it that way, and, now that you mention it, it does seem like a silly approach. i know back in my strong-to-the-tower days, i would never have accepted any amount of evidence (even biblical) as proof of a trinitarian God. i think you have to break the whole "God's channel" thing first, then the rest will fall. i still don't know how to do it, but i think that's the most effective way.

Watchtower or Awake ??

some jw's came to our home yesterday and my hubby got out of a bath to answer the door.

they left him a magiazine, not sure what it is.

it did not have awake or watchtower on it.

yes, "keep on the watch"* is a very timely brochure for all to enjoy. this old system is on its way out and this brochure can help young and old, black and white avoid the way this system is going: destruction. it is a special privilege to be involved in distributing this brochure, because of the implications of its message. it's a who's who of doom-meets-joy and it's for everyone to read and not die or die, your choice. God bless this stupid brochure. thank you
